“The” City. New York City (NYC) is without a doubt one of the most well known and exciting cities in the entire
world. With over 8 million inhabitants, it the largest city in the United States, and is the home of Broadway, Wall
Street, and the United Nations. It has been the birthplace of the Harlem Renaissance, abstract expressionism, and
hip-hop music, as well as notables such as Al Capone, George Gershwin, Michael Jordan, Mary Tyler Moore, and
Eleanor Roosevelt. New York City is truly a must-see place for anyone interested in culture, history, politics,
business, travel, or just about any other topic in American life. The city is comprised of five boughs (The Bronx,
Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island), and each has a variety of things to do and see if you are visiting
that part of the city. Of course, there are many sighseeing attractions in these different parts of the city.
Millions of people visit New York City every year and many take some form of New York tour. New
York is a city full of history, diversity, culture, incredible beauty and breathtaking sites. There's so much to
see in New York that sometimes you need help or a way to see a lot in a short period of time! There are New York
bus tours designed to hit "all the sites", hop-on hop-off double decker tours, large and small intimate guided
sightseeing tours, walking tours, bike tours, historical & cultural tours, limo tours, private tours with a
local, expert NYC tour guides and much, much more! You can even enjoy the skyline from a helicopter or the Statue
of Liberty and bridges on a cruise boat or water tour. If you are staying in Manhattan, check out maps ahead of
time so you can appreciate and see the sights in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, Harlem and Staten Island too.
Stop any New Yorker and say “fall foliage” - and he or she will probably respond with “Vermont” or
“New England,” or even “Upstate.” But for both tourists enjoying fall in New York City and locals who like staying
home, there are some surprisingly good fall color displays within the city limits. Don't expect snow-capped
mountains, scenic turn-of-the-century railroads (no, not the IRT!) or quaint village greens. In the city, it's all
about the trees and the strolls in the crisp air. You can reach every location by public transportation.
The choice of natural wilderness areas (there are quite a few left) and man-made landscapes makes
New York City one of the top destinations in the United States for urban “leaf-peeping” and general autumn tourism.
Fall comes late to New York City, after the season is past its peak further north. The peak foliage season is late
October and early November. Be aware that it is not recommended to visit some of these parks in the evening or
night.
Research your tour options and decide the type and style of tour that best fits your budget and
lifestyle. And remember, while the famous sites like the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Empire State Building,
Top of the Rock, Central Park, Times Square and others are "must sees", there is sooooo much more to experience in
New York. Our advice is to book at least one or two tours in advance to insure you see exactly what you have to see
in the style you want to see it. Don't get here and have the days fly by only to miss your most important sights!
We encourage you to be adventurous but the locals have been doing this for years and can make your New York City
sightseeing experience fun, exciting, organized, informative and one to remember for a lifetime. Take a limo tour,
it definitely pays!
As you set out, in whichever borough you choose, thank the two main forces that have provided you
with your autumn show - a) the last Ice Age, for ending just in time and depositing the terminal moraine smack in
the middle of the future site of New York City; and b) Fredrick Law Olmsted, Calvert Vaux, and the 19th century
urban planners for understanding the need to create planned natural landscapes in the middle of the big city. Rent
